It seemed that we may have been losing sight of the genre that truly every other metal, hardcore, post hardcore and thrash metal genre was built on. Getting back to the basics is what was fully needed: songs filled with tough guitar work complimented by deep base movement, all put down to harsh leads of drum work filled with depth. This is what made rock ‘n roll so strong for such a long time.
It takes a strong, distinct sound to bring people back around to the strongest base genre that exists. Shallow Side is setting out to keep the strong rhythms and heavy melodies of rock rolling along. One is the first project from this Alabama born quartet. The EP is six songs of hard rock for the metal soul.
From the beginning, “We Roll” is a full-on anthem to the unity of the band and its rock movement. “Rebel” is a more tough view into the depth that the band is able to bring out through its work. You can bounce at every change in the rhythm.
“Renegade” is Shallow Side’s remake of the Styx classic. They fully do the writer justice with the intent of the sobering lyrics with a modern edge. “Can You Hear Me” is another test of the smooth melodies with a more rugged edges.
Shallow Side has been playing together for approximately five years. Even with this being its first studio offering, the band’s music illuminates a lot of experience and continuity. Some bands have been trying for years to get the right chemistry into their music… Shallow Side seems to have found it with flawless effort.
