San Francisco electronic pop/rock band The Trophy Fire‘s third full-length album, Directions For Daylight, is slated to be released by Greyday Records this Tuesday, May 21st…. And just in time for summer, as I couldn’t think of a more perfect album suited for a long drive on a sunny afternoon with an arm out the window.
Since its creation by frontman Ben Flanagan in 2008, The Trophy Fire has since appeared at Austin, Texas’s annual South By Southwest Festival, toured with bands such as Dredg, Far, and The Deer Hunter, and have even shared the stage with national acts Jane’s Addiction and Silversun Pickups.
Flanagan says the threesome’s newest project has a theme of “nostalgia and how looking back affects you in the present and the future.”
Directions For Daylight Track Listing:
- Hey Dreamer

- Devil At My Door
- Greedy Flies

- In Your Mind
- Directions For Daylight
Opening track “Hey Dreamer” was recently premiered to the masses in the Bay Area via a local radio station (and can also be streamed via MTV here), and is probably my favorite tune from Directions For Daylight. Although, “Spinning” is right on its heels (figuratively and literally). Both tracks, as well as the other eight, exhibit the alternative rock and digital sounds of yesteryear, yet in a refreshing, 21st Century kind of way.
The Trophy Fire’s electronic influences are very apparent in this album, most notably in “Devil At My Door” and “Young Blood.” Pair this unique sound with Flanagan’s smooth-like-butter vocals, Adam Schuman on guitar and his brother, John, on drums, and you’ve got yourself a damn good album, folks.
If you’re thinking you’d like to hear what I’ve just described to you, live, well… I hope you’re on a Coast. Right now, there are limited dates lined up for an upcoming spring tour, and most are either in San Fran or the East Coast. But keep checking their website or Facebook, as more dates are being added soon. And if all else fails, preorder Directions For Daylight here.
